Focus
Areas
The core expertise of the IIS focus on water and energy as the main
guarantors of the health and economic well-being of societies. Improvements
in these services will need sustained innovations in policy and institutional
frameworks.
Modalities
The work of the IIS draws on expertise in fields of engineering, economics
and others according to need. The core expertise focuses on areas covering
policy, regulation, institutional frameworks and capacity building.
The IIS welcomes collaboration with local and international partners.
We already have working relationships with the Graduate School of Business
at the University of Cape Town and the Public Utilities Research Centre
at the University of Florida in the USA on the delivery of regulatory
courses. There is also a close association with the African Forum for
Utility Regulators (AFUR) and the Southern African Development Community's
Regional Electricity Regulators' Association (RERA).
Funding
The IIS is a private, non-profit organisation. The primary sources of
income are consultancy, short courses and commissioned work. The Institute
also welcomes, on suitable terms, short-term and multi-year grants from
agencies working for human resource development, research in priority
areas and dissemination of research outcomes and best practice.
